Development of efficent analytic technique for study of biomolecules based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)

Project:  Development of efficent analytic technique for study of biomolecules based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)

Research institute: Division of Biomolecular Physics, Institute of Physics

Description:
Proposed project is aimed at the development of an advanced, ultrasensitive and practically accessible analytical and bioanalytical tool using further optimized, extremely sensitive spectroscopic technique of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). This will be made possible by employment of newly designed and prepared stable, sensitive and highly reproducible SERS-active surfaces: gold colloidal metal particles attached to glass slides with self-assembled monolayer of organosilanes. Possibilities of further refining, sensitivity enhancement, and broader applicability of the suggested novel arrangement of SERS detection will be pursued specifically in the combination with porphyrins and nucleic acids. We intend to study, after assessment of sensitivity and limitations of the method with model compounds, the compounds with potential therapeutic efficency (new porphyrins derivatives and modified oligonucleotides).
